Merry Holidays!
OK, so the right wing extremists are at it again! These Christian wackos are boycotting retailers who do not use the phrase “Merry Christmas” to greet shoppers or in their advertising this Holiday Season. The article over at CNN.com goes into more detail.
Seriously, these guys need to get a life and stop forcing this distorted Christian bullshit on everyone. I just come up short every time I try to understand where, in the traditional Christian doctrine, it tells followers to go forth and force everyone to submit to their beliefs. Hell, most of the Christmas traditions are rooted in ancient celebrations and rituals on non-Christan religions. You don’t believe me . . . go look it up for yourself!
So, to the wackos I say . . . . OK, I get it, you’re really into you religion . . . but why must you force it on ME? The freedom of religion also includes the freedom to select no religion if one chooses. Attending church services and quoting your favorite book of religious virtues does not make one spiritual, moral or religious, it makes you a follower. Religion is personal; it is in your heart, mind and spirit . . . it’s not a symbol you wear on your sleeve and it definitely IS NOT A BASEBALL BAT YOU SMACK PEOPLE ABOUT THE HEAD WITH!
The Christmas, Holiday (or whatever you call it) season is about sharing; it’s about giving without the expectation of something in return. The season is for caring, and accepting people in your life for whom they are – not trying to change them into something that fits your personal belief structure. If you feel someone or something is not in keeping with your personal beliefs, don’t associate, shop or participate, it’s your choice.
As always, I support and defend your right to the freedom of speech and religion. Though, to really be in observance of these freedoms, you must understand that they are not free in the sense of beer; rather they come with the high price of personal responsibility for you actions . . . a cost which most of you regularly forget to pay.
This holiday season, it’s time to stop adding to your personal responsibility deficit; remember that your freedoms extend about as far as you can reach. The instant that you impinge on the freedoms of other human, there will be consequences for you.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
