The New, New Deal

While watching the news this evening I was struck by a single topic . . . a topic that seemed to be on each of the newscasters minds . . . where were the masses of unskilled to under skilled workers going to find jobs once the relocation and resettlement of people from hurricane stricken areas is complete. A large number of these people are likely to stay where they land, putting a huge strain on the local and state economies that are taking up the slack and welcoming these fellow Americans to their new home with open arms.

Why not give them a new deal to start over?

Inspired by the post depression era government work project of the same name, why not bring the jobs to the masses while bringing the masses to jobs?

Are there large scale projects that we could tackle as a nation, providing jobs, health care and hope to those left with nothing? This could even provide job skills to the under skilled and unskilled work force while helping those without to help themselves? Teach a man to fish indeed?

Any ideas? What projects would we tackle?
